Lalit Deshmukh is a professional fine art photographer living in the Pacific Northwest. Lalit is very passionate about nature, and he draws much of his inspiration from photography. He enjoys capturing special moments in nature and evoking emotions via compositions and light.
Lalit has spent more than 20 years exploring and photographing the United States and India. He has presented his work in various exhibitions. He has provided training in Landscape and Nature Photography in the classroom and on the field, including in India, Sri Lanka as well as the USA.
Lalit is a passionate teacher and has taught almost 2000 students in the last ten years in India. Most of them now enjoy photography as a hobby. Some of them have accepted this as a career under Lalit’s guidance and continue to grow. In the year 2011, Lalit formed Impressions Photography Workshops and Expeditions, an associates network organization that strives to provide knowledge, and experience, and help achieve the creative and artistic goals of passionate people.
Lalit’s work has been recognized by Canon USA in November 2020. He also made his solo exhibition on landscapes named “Art by Earth” at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in May 2015. In India his work is exhibited by Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival, Judges’ exhibit in Wild Reflections as well as at Impressions Exhibition. Lalit has presented his work in the USA at Idaho Photographic Workshop, and Western Idaho Fair. “Giripremi” [Translated as Mountanlovers], a nonprofit organization focused on climbing the highest peaks in the world has honored Lalit’s work with an annual calendar published with images photographed by Lalit in the Himalayan region since the year 2009
Lalit has provided training in Landscape and Nature Photography in the classroom and on the field, in India and abroad. He is also an invited speaker on Photography in various institutes including Iowas State University, USA, and corporate organizations like Tata Technologies, Ideas, Infosys, and more. India’s largest-selling photography magazine “Smart Photography” ran an article on Lalit as a Master Craftsman in the July 2015 issue. Lalit has also published photographs in smart photography. “Hamsa” a Marathi magazine also ran a story called “निसर्गचित्रांचा कवी” (Poet of Nature images) on Lalit during the Diwali Edition 2016.
Lalit occasionally directs documentary films. His art film called “माझयासाठी लडाख ” (Mazyasathi Ladakh – Ladakh for myself ) has been praised by many. He made a documentary film funded by Global Forest Watch for Ecological Society in Pune, called “A Saga of a Forest: Northern Western Ghats – Then & Now“, focusing on the problem of environmental destruction in the forests of the northern western ghats. He has also written scripts for documentaries related to social, economical, and environmental problems.
Brought up in India and graduated in Electronics from Pune, India. Later completed his Master’s in Computer Science from Ohio, United States. He comes from 12 years of profession in the software industry. He now stays in Seattle, USA with his family and enjoys exploring Pacific Northwest. He travels to India to lead photography workshops and tours and work on his project “Unseen India”.
